Miserable weather but great fishing!

Sorry it’s been a while since I’ve updated the site, I’ve had more than my fair share of computer hassles!

Anyway, back in the way of all things cyberspace and plenty to write about.

I was thoroughly soaked this morning but extremely gratified to have the company of a young man called Brian and his father Oliver for some fly fishing tuition.

I’m delighted to say that Brian caught and returned his first trout using a fly rod. Well done, and I hope you keep at it!

It’s definitley worth braving the rain at the fishery with the fish in good form and plenty of water flushing through the system with plenty of natural food in all the ponds.

Talking about food.

There’s been a daft so called ‘rumour’ that the fishery feed the fish in the holding tank.

I can catagorically say………Of course they do! What would you expect?

The fish can be in the holding tank for up to a week and if they are not fed , their metabolism slows and condition will suffer. There is a danger that they won’t feed at all when they hit the main ponds and where would you be then?

Very small amounts of pellet feed, and only every other day as opposed to the three squares a day they get at the trout farm.

So hopefully that puts paid to that one.

Anyway, back to more important things. The Carbeth fishing club is growing from strength to strength and the end of month competition is on Sunday 30th August between 0900 and 1300 with the draw for pegs at 0830.

I’m sad to report that we found a dead hen pheasant that had been caught up in some carelessly discarded fishing line. Please, please, please take any line away with you and dispose of properly.

Finally, I’m always happy to receive photographs and wee stories from you all and here’s the latest one sent by email from Scotty McCorquodale

Ashleigh is well chuffed with her first fish

Ashleigh is well chuffed with her first fish

 Hi to all at Carbeth,

On the 17th of August 2009 I took my neice and nephew to Carbeth.

My neice from Bristol, Ashleigh McInally (12), braved the recent bad weather to catch her first fish.

She was fishing with her cousin David McCorquodale from Dalmuir (8) who also had his first fish.

And Cousin David looks pretty happy too!

It would be great if you could put these pics onto your website as they can all show their friends what a good time they had fishing at Carbeth.

 Many thanks Scotty McCorquodale Clydebank.

Happy to oblige Scotty and anyone else who’d like to send me comments, photographs or any other ‘rumours’! please email enquiries@carbethfishery.com

Till the next time

Tight lines (and no’ uppa tree)
