Fly Fishing competition date announced

2009 March 8
by Paul

The date for the first fly fishing competition has been set for the end of March.

Saturday 28th  March beginning at 10am, to be precise.

Lasting four hours with a 10am start, should take us through the most productive time of day  this early in the season- midday into early afternoon.

There has been a fair bit of interest in this and everyone is most welcome, from beginners to those who think they’re experts ( you know who you are)!

There will also be an opportunity to join the Carbeth Fluff Chuka’s, which, as mentioned in an earlier post, will be a non-profit club set up by the members and run for the benefit of the members to promote fly fishing in the area and, lets face it, give folk an excuse for a good day out and a bit of a laugh.

There will be a winner for heaviest bag from three fish as well as a winner for the most fish caught overall, obviously including those released!

All this, for the same price as last years tariff, £15. Not bad eh?

If you’re interested, send an email with your details to enquiries@carbethfishery.com , or put your name on the list in the lodge.

The season is now well and truly under way, I hope you all have a terrific year and we look forward to welcoming you to Carbeth Fishery.

Right where do i start?

I just found this fishery a few months back, although I knew of its existence and the only reason I went to fish at it was because most of the usual fisheries I go to were completely frozen over. I was a bit optimistic to try it as a friend of mine fished it a few years back and he didn’t rate it as it was really just a place for people to gather and drink rather than fish. But to my suprise it was a little gem and you cant keep me away. I make a point to fish it at least once a week!

It has been taken over by new management and the inprovements are there for all to see and you wont meet a more frienly couple than Graeme and Wendy the make all very welcome and are most helpful.

What do you get at Carbeth? Well it has very good access for disabled, the toilets are clean, hot drinks, hot rolls and pies etc. They also supply bait and tackle if needed, so you can be like me and fall out of bed and then head there for a great day out and good company. Also if you have got kids, its a great day out to get them into fishing because all rods and nets can be hired. I’m just sorry I stayed away from this place for so long.

So give it a try and tight lines eveyone!

ps. As for the competitions please make them a Sunday :-p

Hi Joe,
Good points well made.

I’ve been working with Graeme and Wendy to update the website and they genuinely want to make the fishery work and be a friendly, family place to enjoy a day out.

As for the day of competition, we’ll best keep the one advertised for Saturday 28th as is, it may cause too much confusion otherwise.
However in saying that – the club will be democratic and if the majority want a Sunday, then a Sunday it will be!

Glad you can make it Joe, we’ll do our best to make sure it’s worth it!

I take your point re working on Saturday’s, most folk will nab any OT going in the present fiscal climate!

If anyone else has any views on Sat/Sun competition days, or anything else for that matter, please do let us know.
