Big fish fest at Carbeth……

Hi,

There have been plenty of really nice fish been caught over the past few days on both the bait and fly ponds, unfortunately I’ve only been at the fishery on-and-off recently and I’ve missed most of them!

Just one of the bigger fish to be had at the fishery

I was there today and witnessed Stevie Gilchrist land this 7lb 2oz beauty.

To put in into perspective, it’s lying on a table!

Stevie was obviously too shy to stick himself in the frame as well.

I can’t imagine that it would’ve been the first time he’d been under the table!

He caught it on a red and white fritz with a floating line and 6lb tippet. Not too shabby mate.

Remember, if you do catch a fish you are proud of, whatever the reason – it doesn’t have to be big, maybe it’s your first, then send me the photo and I’ll put it up for you. I’m also happy to put up any stories you care to send also. Just keep them clean and about fishing!

Talking of special fish, I had the pleasure of coaching a nice fella called Bill today.

He’d been away from fishing for ten years or so and wanted a few pointers. To be honest, there wasn’t a lot wrong with what he was doing, but I’m delighted to say that he hooked into a fish after a wee bit of advice about fishing into the wind.

It’s great when a plan comes together.

Couple of reminders:

Firstly, it’s the end of month fluff chuckers v maggot dookers competition tomorrow, Sunday 30th August. Draw for pegs at 0830 and the session is a three fish four hour between 0900 and 1300. Hope to see you there, all are most welcome for this ‘fun’ competition.

Secondly, in my previous blog you’ll find a request for some help from the Glasgow-based production company that make the ‘Extreme Fishing with Robson Green’ programme. They are about to film in some of the poorest parts of the World and are looking to help the locals out with some equipment.

If you can help out with any unwanted tackle, please hand it in to the lodge and we’ll make sure it gets to the folk that desperately need it.

And finally, as mentioned earlier, if you fancy some tuition in fly fishing, do get in touch.

It can make a big difference to your success and enjoyment of the sport.

I’ve also got a few folk interested in a ‘fly-tying then fish’ session. The idea here is that we get you to dress a fly then go catch a fish on it! You can’t beat catching a fish on something you’ve tied yourself.

Let me know if you’re interested and we’ll find a suitable date.

I sincerely hope that you hook into one of the big fish that the fishery have been stocking.

Tight lines (and no’ uppa tree)

Paul
