Big fish and not so big, but all good!
2009 April 15
Just back from a great day out with the fishery buzzing with folk with kids off for the Easter holidays.
It’s good for the soul to see so many kids out enjoying themselves.
Take Dylan, who’s seven.

Dylan, after he'd calmed down a wee bit
I had already caught my limit and was mooching about with my camera when I came across this wee chap and his reaction to the fish he caught was both magic and infectious!
It took me back to the days when I first started fishing.
And if I’m honest, I still get the same thrill when you have something tug on your string.
There are a new batch of fish to be had at the fishery, and some big ones too!
I know I said in previous posts that these fish are amongst the hardest fighting I’d ever experienced.
But the latest arrivals are, if anything, even better! Full fins and big tails, these fish make you work hard.

If I'm honest, Hamish was nearly as excited as Dylan. Nearly!
And talking of working hard, Hamish Dickson was well chuffed with this fish on the left here.
Unfortunately I don’t have the weight but I’d say it was in the 5-6lb bracket.
Hamish then went on to have some real ‘top-of-water’ action as he bent into a fish from about 4 feet out on a wee ‘CDC’.
The look on his face was just like wee Dylan from earlier.

Andy MAY tell you the fly he used but sadly, would have to kill you afterwards!
The biggest fish I saw today though was down to angler Andy McNab.
Now, I don’t know if it was THE Andy McNab (him of the S.A.S. fame).
I was too feart to ask.
I did ask him about the catch and he said that he saw the fish follow him right in close and engulf his fly.
Personally, I did ok today, caught three and returned another four on a gold head blood worm but my mate big Drew was having a mare! You know one of those days when nothing goes right?
Tangle after tangle and frustration with dropped fish. We’ve all had them.

Eventually though, patience shone through and this was the result. Personally I think he grabbed my rod and my winning fly while I was off taking the other photo’s but the big swine wasn’t saying!
Size isn’t everything Drew. Right?
